We took our time this morning, we were able to sleep in for the first time this week and one of only a few times on this trip so far. All we had to do this morning was get ready and wait for our cousins to arrive. I took advantage of the down time and went to the pool to do my water exercises and swim for a bit before getting ready. They got here just in time for lunch, so we headed to TGI Fridays in Sam's Town. After lunch the plan was to go visit the famous Vegas strip and see what it's all about.
Our cousins drove to park at the Mirage where they are spending the night and we caught the shuttle to meet them there. The shuttle stop is at the Harass which is right across from the Mirage, so it turned out perfect and we did not have to walk far to meet up with them.
After a short stop at the Mirage, we devised a plan with my handy dandy map and list of free things to see and headed out. First stop was Caesar's Palace to see the Fall of the Atlantis show. Instead of walking outside in the blazing sun and heat, we stepped in-doors and walked through the Forum Shops to get to the other end of the complex. Its incredible how large the hotel properties are, the Forum Shops are a full fledged mall within the Caesar Palace and the blocks seem to be miles long (not sure exactly how long they really are). After that show we headed down the street to the Bellagio - we went inside and made our way to the Conservatory - an indoor flower and glass sculpture garden. It was a bit weird to me because I was not sure if I had to pretend to be outside by the shore or walking in the ocean - it just did not flow, but the colors and flowers were pretty. We then headed outside to watch the Water Dancing show in the outdoor fountain.
At this point, the other attractions were really far down the street so instead we crossed the street on the overpass - glad they have those because the streets are crazy busy with traffic - and headed to the Flamingo to check out the Wildlife Habitat. The habitat had some birds and fish, the hotel itself feels dated. By now it was early evening and everyone was ready for dinner, since we had a sit down lunch we all agreed on Chipotle where we could get a quick meal and head back out, it was a good option for vegetarians, meat eaters and vegans alike.
By the time we finished dinner it was dark and the Strip was glowing. We crossed the street once again to drop food off for Austin at the Mirage - he had decided to skip all the sightseeing, so we waited outside for them and got to watch the Volcano show. We then walked down the street to Treasure Island to see the Pirate show, but it was no longer running. To take care of our disappointment we went for a treat to Carlo's Bakery at the Venetian. I wish we could have looked into Gondola rides, but by this time it was late so we headed to the Mirage so that Ruben could drive us back to our campground.
It was a long day of walking and taking advantage of all the free shows. There was a couple more things we could have done for free and of course a ton of things to do if you want to pay. It will all have to wait for next time.
