A bit of a busier day today!!
We left this morning and went to check on the lame giraffe. It seems much better today.
We then went to look at the suni antelopes with the abscesses. Unfortunately one of them died yesterday. So the vet had to dart the other one to look at it. It had quite a nasty abscess on it's face, it looked a little bit like a tumor but it is unlikely to be that because they are not contagious and the other suni had the same problem. Anyway the vet removed a mass and stitched up the face. The progress of the abscess will have to be monitored and a sample will be sent off to try and determine what caused it. Somehow in the struggle of being darted it also broke it's femur. So that had to be set.
The vet did a post mortem on the suni that died yesterday and it looked healthy apart from the decayed face area where the abscess was. It is possible it also got pneumonia in the bad weather yesterday which finished it off.
We then went and dehorned 2 rhino. Everything went well.
There was also a lizard buzzard that had been hit by a car. However, it was in a very bad way and sadly died by the end of the day.
This morning I woke up with a bit of a sore throat. Whilst working with the suni I just happened to check my throat in the car mirror and I have got HORRIBLE tonsillitis. Again. Looks like I'm going to finish this trip as I started it!! So I had to go to the doctor and get some antibiotics. What a hassle! I can't believe I have it again. Such bad luck. Might have to get them removed if this carries on! But anyway I have antibiotics so hopefully that will clear itself up now.
