Wellington to Marahau (Abel Tasman) - Sunday 4h December 2011
So I waved good bye to the North Island and caught a Blue Bridge ferry to the wet and windy South Island to meet the next Stray bus. Thankfully a lot of the Northern Stray bus were also still together and following the same route, so this made the start of the South Island a lot easier being that we all had gotten to know one another.
We headed through the famous Marlborough vineyard area and stopped off at for a spot of wine tasting (and $5 shot tasting) before heading onto our night stop in Marahau, right on the edge of the Abel Tasman National Park. Arriving in the pouring rain, Jenna, Johny, Georige, Marleen and I scrambled for the best shack on the grounds, and with luck we got it!
Like when arriving anywhere new you want to explore your surroundings right? Well this is exactly what Marleen and I did, with the first stop being the bathroom block. The first door we came to was labelled 'ShowerS' (notice the stress on the plural). So Marleen reached for the door and pulled wide open whilst I stood in full view of what awaited me on the other side. A little yelp was released from a steamy room - and as the steam dispersed - standing there in all her glory was none other than Asian Amy (not to be confused with American Amy, who is not actually American but Canadian)!
Now any normal person would have said sorry and closed the door, but not Marleen. Instead she had a peek herself and then closed the door back on Amy with no comment......priceless moment!
With the rain in full swing we opted for burgers at an acclaimed roadside stall. They really were awesome, and I went for the trout burger…..yum!
Arriving back at the shack we popped open a bottle of wine, officially named Amy (AA), and all introduced to Black Pete (I'll explain later).
Accommodation - 9/10 and GREAT company.
