Adelaide to Sydney (South West Rocks) 28th Dec 2011 to 4th Jan 2012
With one festivejolly over with its time to start another one! A short Virgin hop from Adelaide to Sydney and a couple of days to chill out at Chris and Ben's before heading up to South West Rocks on the East Coast for New Year. Being that I tackled Sydney two years ago there was not much call for the tourist spots. So this really was a lazy couple of days.
A few hours' drive from Sydney and we finally arrived in South West Rocks to meet up with Chris & Ben's pals Pete, Kamini and Pete's sis and brother in-law. We all stayed at the Rock Pool Motor Inn, which for me was luxury compared to what I've been used to over the last month, and pricy ;-).
South West rocks is a sleepy seaside town right off the tourist map, so it was a place for the locals or Aussies in the know. As I'm officially on vacation from my trip and with Chris and Ben, I guess that makes me an honorary Aussie for the next few days. Choice ;-)
Arriving on the 30th we've got a day to relax, get to know one another, and of course do what Aussies do best and stock up at the bottle shop. Once the important things were sorted we headed to horseshoe beach for a sand and surf. Actually there was no surf, just lazing around in the water, but it sounds more adventuress. Once the sun had gone home for the night we headed to one of the few local bars for dinner and a few cheeky drinks.
NYE is finally here, again! Another day of chilling and a trip into town to stock up on supplies. Pinching an idea from Grey Mouth, New Zealand, I've purchased some bin bags and sticky tape for a little NY evening fun. If you've been reading my previous blog then you'll know about one, and it seemed rather fitting for this evenings activities.
For dinner we went to the local club house for an all you can eat buffet (another choice event), played couple of drinking card games, and once fully stuffed headed back to the motel to prepare for midnight. With a few more drink in side us the bin bags finally surfaced. All dressed up and ready to go we made our way down to the beach to see the NY in. As well as being dressed in bin bags it was rather surreal to be on the beach waiting to see the New Year in. After a few sparklers, fireworks and some indescribable dancing we headed back to the motel. This is also the night that I'm planning on attempting to pack in the smokes, so I Jessed (private joke) the remaining smokes and headed to bed.
NYD was yet another chilled day with a BBQ up in the hills and a short final trip to the beach. Before I knew it we were in the car and heading back to Sydney.
Great few days with some awesome people!
I'm leaving for Perth on the 5th of Jan, so again I chilled out at Chris and Ben's, getting ready for my road trip and taking another wonder around the city.
