Whakahoro to Tongariro National Park, New Zealand - Thursday 1st December 2011
Today we headed to the active volcanoes and World Heritage of 'Tongariro National Park' to complete the Tongariro crossing. This was like no other walk Id ever experienced and it took a total of around 6 hours to complete. At times the terrain was tough, but the views were out of this world and made up for the sore feet.
So on the walk we were also joined by a photographer who was taking pictures for the 2012 New Zealand tourist board. Quick check in the public toilets that my hair was in place and I was ready for my close ups. Myself and Georgie tried every trick in the book to ensure we were not too near him part within range of the lens.
Upon turning a corner to a cliff edge we noticed him waiting for his next shot. The scene was perfect and would have made a great front page.
So we both checked each other out, and on queue we walked along the ledge, but did he take one photo of us? Did he heck! Instead the rest of the group shortly followed in unison and only then did he click away like a Japanese tourist on speed. From then on in we could only bring ourselves to think of ways in which we could get hold of the camera, wipe it and knock him off at the same time.
Total distance walked - 17k with the highest altitude point being 1900ft, taking over 6 hours to cover.
