Spent the day driving from Marlborough to Torquay at harvey bay. We called in on my friend from teaching days in mt. Gambier, jan and her husband George. They were surprised to see us and made us feel welcome. They drove us around and showed us the sights and took us to the yacht club for dinner. Jan and I had some catching up and reminiscing to do while the fellas discussed fishing tactics. Tonight we are sleeping in a real bed, thanks to the generosity of jan and George, the first one in 4 weeks, luxury! Today's photo is of the entrance to Torquay beach where jan swims most mornings. Harvey bay is famous for whale watching and visiting Fraser island. We watched the the tourist boats returning to the marina from their whale watching ventures. George also showed us the spot where turtles hang out to do there thing and feed, however they weren't there at that time, it might've had something to do with the rain. We also saw bats hanging in a tree near the beach. I was introduced to a butcher bird In jans front garden. It apparently swoops her as well when she gardens, so she has created a hat with bamboo skewers sticking up through it to keep them off.
