Today we said goodbye to our travelling companions and headed south along the coast. We called into Townsville and drove around the streets , it reminded me of cairns particularly the foreshore, with it's cafes and accommodation strip next to the beach. It was 9nice to have a clean car, thanks to Dennis washing it this morning, so whenever I lean on it now I won't get red dirt all over me. It's also a nice change to be driving on the black top without all the dust and bumps. We passed a lot of cane fields today. Some were being burnt off some were being harvested and loaded into trains and taken to mills. When the machines are harvesting you ought to see the dirt in the air, from a distance it looks like smoke. We have crossed so many rivers and creeks throughout Queensland and today was no exception. As we are near the coast now the rivers are getting wider and the burdekin river had this massively high bridge, apparently it flooded during the last cyclone, it's hard to imagine. By the way there is a turtle next to this pond you might see it if you look hard it's at the top in the middle.
