Left Weipa this morning at 9am after picking up fresh bread and finger buns from the bakery. Headed out onto dirt roads again, some were good and some had those horrible corrugations we love so much. There are roadworks going on everywhere prior to the wet season. We stopped to help 3young German lads who had just rolled their car on a sandy bend. We used our winch to pull it back on its wheels they all seemed ok but their car was crumpled and the windscreen was smashed. It must have just happened because there was still one guy in the back seat trying to get out. Later on we visited fruit bat falls where the fellas went in for a swim, the water was so clear and it was a beautiful spot. Then we went down a rough track, through a creek which was about one metre deep, for 9 kms to our booked camping site at Elliot falls. Poor Mick and Kathy, there was someone in their campsite who said he would not move as he had shifted twice and said that the park ranger said he could have that site, he became quite aggressive so we left however other people heard about there predicament and offered them theirs as they had booked two and no longer needed both. When we were getting settled Warrick noticed he had a dripping under his car, so there were more repairs , this time to a hole in his radiator.
Monday
Dennis woke early for a swim at twin falls and then came back for breakfast. He said it was beautiful and talked me into going down later, I'm glad he did because it was so refreshing and sitting under the fall was like having the strongest spa pounding my muscles. We stayed there until we looked like prunes. We had a game of scrabble and then happy hour drinks while roast lamb cooked in the webber, which was delicious by the way. During the night my phone received a text MSG at 2:30 which surprised me because we didn't have any coverage! It was hard to get back to sleep because of the smell of burning off, you just wonder how close they will come.
Tuesday
After packing up Dennis went for a last swim. We headed up the telegraph track only a short way to experience some of the water crossings . We managed to bend a pin on our jockey wheel, hit a tree with the trailer guard, break the long handled shovel using it to leaver the guard off the wheel and mick got stuck and had to be winched out. We had to cross the great jardine river by ferry when we got there they were closed for lunch so we had ours as well. It cost us $99 return which included one nights bush camping At the cape. We've arrived at seishia and will go for a short drive to the top tomorrow. We have a spot on the beach with shady mango trees and a view of the Torres strait islands, temperature is about 30 with a light breeze, what more could you want?
