Yesterday we were out of range but we stayed at Adeles Grove, what a beautiful place! It was a hot day, 35 degrees plus and it felt like an oasis when we arrived. We found the camping area covered by a canopy of trees along side Lawn Hill Creek. There were stands of giant bamboo gums, ficus and fine leafed canopy trees. They all intermingled like a large umbrella. There were water lillies in the river and minnie waterfalls, the current was strong so you could jump in one place and float down stream in rubber tubes. We slept with our awnings up, just the fly screen between us and nature until early this morning when I got too cold. When the sun warmed up it caused the trees to drop their leaves and they came floating down ever so slowly, it was so peaceful! We also saw our first cane toad on our way to the toilets last night before bed. Dennis had another fall climbing down the steps to get in the river for a swim, they were very slippery. He hurt his side again and his ankle but went for a swim anyway, Best place so far! Today we went to lawn hill national park and went for a nature walk. I didn't go as far as the others but it was very tropical similar to Adeles but the campsites weren't as good, luckily we didn't book in there. We saw our first snake encounter, in fact there were two incidents, both brown snakes we think, slithering across the walking path. Also noticed a huge bee hive high up in the tree, it looked like an animal so I borrowed someone's binoculars to identify it. Tonight we are staying at Burketown caravan park, Dennis and mick went for a quick fish before sunset and spotted their first crocodile, yikes! Burketown is famous for its "Morning Glory" an early morning cloud formation where long cylindrical clouds, as long as 1,000 Klms line up parallel to each other. It creates thermals and opportunities for gliders to enjoy long flights sometimes 500 Klms.
Tomorrow we aim to be at Normanton.
