A pleasant 36 miles today. The upside - back to civilization; the downside - traffic and noise. It was fairly easy going today along well marked bicycle routes all the way to San Francisco. We enjoyed a bike path through the Samuel P. Taylor State Park. The ride over the Golden Gate Bridge felt anticlimactic - the reality far different than what we had anticipated. It was cold and very windy, tons of people walking and gawking, many people on rented bicycles who didn't know how to ride properly so it was stressful just trying to not run over or hit someone. Luckily there were some workmen on the bridge with little golf carts going in our direction. I managed to get behind one and he beeped his horn clearing a path for his cart and I just followed in his wake. Much easier, but I was definitely glad to get off that bridge. From
Then on it was a short ride down bike paths to the Hostel on Fisherman's Wharf.
Fisherman's Wharf itself was a disappointment, full of tacky tourist souvenir stores, expensive food, mobs of people with cameras (including us)! We didn't spend much time there.
We are now on a rest day, toured the downtown area a bit, came back to the hostel for a nap and some quiet time in preparation to resume our ride tomorrow. Heading to Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel.
