45 miles today and that was more than enough. The winds were strong but the legs didn't feel that strong. We entered the Big Sur stretch soon after leaving Carmel. This is the area where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise up out of the sea and it runs from Carmel to Ragged Point. It was a tough day with temperamental winds often gusting headwinds/ crosswinds do strong that at times I had to get off the bike and walk for fear of being blown over a cliff or into traffic. When it was a tailwind it was great fun feeling the strength of that win literally pushing me up the mountain! We arrived at the village of Big Sur around 2 PM with plans to get a few groceries and continue on to Lucia and the Limekiln State Park. Plans changed quickly when we realized that 22 more miles in this terrain could well take us 3 hours or more and we were already tired. We stopped at the Pfeiffer State Park to learn that Limekiln was on a first come
first serve basis with no hiker biker sites. Rather than risk being homeless for the night we decided to stop here for the night. A wise decision it turned out to be.
