65 miles today. We made better time than yesterday and checked in to the Motel 6 in Marina around 3 PM. We decided that it was too windy and we were too tired to bother with finding a campsite, setting up, getting groceries etc. So we are cosy and warm in our room for the night. Dinner at Denny's. Probably breakfast too.
The roads were good and the hills were easy. We took some time getting through Santa Cruz mostly because I read the map incorrectly and we zigged when we should have zagged. But we eventually got out of the urban zoo. We passed through a lot of farm land, wondering how much of it is GMO? My guess would be most of it.
The wind came up around 1 this afternoon and played havoc with us, sometimes a tail wind but mostly a strong crosswind or headwind. The terrain was flat and bleak, with a lot of sand dunes and nary a tree to break the wind. I was tired by the time we arrived in Marina and very happy to get off the bike and have a relaxing evening - doing laundry.
Tomorrow we head for Big Sur and have a few big hills to conquer. So we are hoping for strong tailwinds as well as strong legs!
