It was a shorter day today, only 38 miles and bit less strenuous than previous days but still tiring as we experienced the same kind of terrain - up and down from one gully to the next, a few ugly switchbacks - very steep both down and then back up. Stopped in Elk for a break at Queenie's Roadhouse Cafe - the only happening place in town! It was quite charming. While relaxing there with a delicious cup of coffee a woman approached us and started asking about our journey, she was soon inviting us to stay at her home in Manchester for the night. It was a tempting offer but the logistics of changing our booking at the KOA, adjusting our schedule, and for me the idea of having to be sociable in a strangers house for a whole evening just seemed a bit overwhelming - I guess I really am an introvert - I just couldn't see myself doing that when I'm already tired. So we decided to decline her invitation and sleep in our tents, knowing that I would sleep better in my tent anyway.
So here we are at the Manchester KOA on a long weekend - maybe we should have accepted Monica's invitation? This place is full and noisy! Kids, dogs, cars, cowboy music.... It's also quite cold. I'm still waiting for the temperatures to warm up. I've been told that it will get warmer as we get further south but they didn't say how much further - the equator?
Tomorrow we are planning a fairly long ride so I'm closing this blog for now to get ready for an early bedtime and an early start in the morning. Will post this when we have access to the Internet.
