We made it to Lompoc by early afternoon. It was a lovely ride through Santa Maria Valley all morning, passing through large farming communities (vegetables and strawberries and then vineyards) which then transformed to ranching as we neared the hills. One big climb which although steep did not trouble us too much, not as bad as I had expected. Then it was an exhilarating downhill run into Lompoc. There is no good camping nearby so we checked into the Motel 6, great rates!
I enjoyed having the afternoon free. We visitors the local bike shop, got the brakes adjusted, tires topped up, and had some good conversation with two other cyclists we met on the way up the hill.
Tomorrow will be more miles with hopes of making it to Santa Barbara close to - depending on available camping.
