I will keep this one fairly short as we have another big day tomorrow and my brain is too tired to concentrate. We arrived at Hotel Tritone in Rome about 4pm Thursday after our six hour flight from Dubai. Once in Rome it took a little bit to actually sink in - WE'RE IN ROME! The first time exploring our new surroundings we followed the signs to the nearest attraction, the Trevi Fountain, which was only 200m from our hotel!! It was a defining moment, I was in Rome OMG. We then proceeded to wander around the small streets until stumbling upon a small restaurant where we had spaghetti and ravioli and it was delicious. After filling our tummies, we strolled around and found our first bankomat so we could withdraw some $$$$ so we could hit the town the next day.
At 9:30am we started our golf cart tour of Rome with our guide Roberto. If you want to see and feel Rome like to locals then this tour is perfect. We packed in so much in one day, it was unbelievable with incredible weather and atmosphere. I cannot remember the names of every church and sight that we saw but we have about 350 photos that documented our day. I will run through the highlights for now - Spanish Steps, Villa Borghese (spectacular), about 3 or 4 churches, 5 squares with fountains etc, government/parliament buildings/monuments, largest farmers' markets, Colosseum, Palantine Hill etc etc etc - like I said we saw so much; 350 photos lol. We were able to have coffee (real coffee) at two small coffee shops and it really was the best coffee we've ever had. For lunch we requested pizza and were taken to another amazing cafe and it was fantastic. The farmers' markets were also so so so good, the freshest produce and it smelt and tasted devine. I could live here just for the food, drool! We saw so many streets off the beaten track and learnt so much about Rome's history. Anyway, look at the few pics I chose to highlight our day they speak volumes compared to my poor blogging skills :)
