After our last breakfast in Lucca, we took the train to La Spezia (about 2hrs) and arrived about lunch time. Being Sunday all the shops were closed and the town was almost deserted. We had a small lunch near the water and went back to our hotel to meet up with the tour group. We all took a bus to the lovely town of Porto Venere. It was a stunning little town/village on the water which was so blue. We were told this is where the richer inhabitants of Italy like to come and spend some time. It had a gorgeous little church surrounded by stone walls as used back in the day when people defended their castles. The village also had one small winding allyway with to-die-for food aromas, clothes and jewellery. We stayed for drinks overlooking the water and cliff faces - I had a long island ice tea which had so much alcohol in it that it was like drinking petrol and Matty had a Mai Thai which was a lot more tasty than mine. As Italians eat dinner between 7:30pm and 9pm we are slowly getting used to the European way. Dinner of course was at 7:30pm where we had assorted pastas to try (pesto, tomato & basil, and mussels) all of which are always tasty. We took the 9pm bus back to La Spezia and crashed for the night.
