Our first sweet taste of Argentina......The colonial city of Salta. After a very stressful border crossing from Bolivia the thing we craved most was a comfortable room, hot shower and good food and Salta provided all these and more.
Our room contained a colour TV, Shower with 24hr hot water, soap, toilet roll and towels were provided. We truly felt spoilt!
Salta is a beautiful city, retaining alot of its colonial architecture. The main plaza was surrounded by orange trees, top of the range coffee shops and beautiful buildings. The most outstanding being the church, painted pink and cream, bizzare but very eye catching.
Unfortunately Dal not being well had to rest for the first day, not moving from her bed but quite content with watching TV, a luxury after spending a whole month in Bolivia!
We were accompanied by an american guy from Utah. We met Andy in Uyuni whilst catching the night train, struggling to get our luggage on aswell as ourselves! Feeling alot safer with a male presence.
The first night Maz and Andy went out to dinner, leaving Dal to rest. Complimentary starters and a basket of bread, followed by lasagna and beer left them both feeling more than satisfied and impressed by the argentinian hospitality and service.
Following day, with Dal feeling alot more spritely we toured the city. We caught a cable car upto the lookout which was surrounded by beautiful gardens where we enjoyed freshly squuezed lemonade whilst taking in the sights. A cultural event that happened to be taking place in the park below entertained us for a number of hours with traditional music and dancing.
Argentina has very much a European feel, its hard to believe that you are still in South America. Keen to explore more of this new country we booked onward tickets to Tucuman...otherwise known as the ´Garden of Argentina´. An early rise followed by a traditional breakfast overlooking the main plaza......croissants, coffee and a VERY small glass of orange juice we made our way to the bus station...
