Happy New Year! Wishing you all a prosperous, loving and dream filled 2007.
We celebrated our new year in Columbia, unfortunately there is no correspondance between this date and our passport visa as we were made to trek 20 minutes to the Airport in the Blistering heat, 3 times!! It was quite hilarious actually, all sweaty with no means of communication we managed to fathom that firstly we had arrived out of office hours, the second attempt left us with a broken computer and finally third time lucky we got our columbian stamp to add to our collection.
The people? The drugs? The guerillas?....simply put, we´re having the time of our lives. No threats, feeling much safer than Brazil!
Warmest people we have met so far, very obliging, understanding and all soooooo patient! We used our bargaining skills to negotiate a top hotel as it´s currently the low season. Making full use of the swimming pool, even when its raining.......great experience with Columbia´s tropical weather.
Maz has already managed to flood the bathroom! Only realising once she had stepped out of the shower into the bedroom, luckily it is tiled flooring otherwise we might of had another hefty fine to pay!
Our spirits have lifted even though we were hit with a $100 fine from Brazilian immigration (oops!) because.....yes.....we know.....not all immigration officers are competent. We automatically thought we were granted a 90 day visa, instead we received 14 days, completely illegibal to us, but obviously not to immigration. Oh dear! With questioning for 2 hours, we finally left with the V sign. Thankfully this is only payable should we ever choose to step back onto Brazilian soil....as you can imagine we are in no hurry to do so!
Making full use of the Moto Taxi´s (Motorcycles) which are fun and very cheap! Nearly every columbian has one, cars here are very sparse, hardly anyone walks due to the humidity. Definately lost a few pounds in the past few days!
Have been sampling the local beverages, particularly the coffee and alcohol. Saw a local speciality - pig stuffed with minced pork, rice and veg, can´t say we were rushing to try some!
Maz the joker as usual tricked Dal into thinking "Gum-e-chew" was the spanish word for chewing gum, confused looks all around and muffled laughter alerted Dal of Maz´s prank....leaving the shop assistant baffled and Dal red faced :)
Our next destination is Peru which we are both really excited about, plenty of historical sites to explore and culture galore. Couldn´t bear the thought of another ride on our beloved slow boats so have paid a little extra to catch a rapido (fast boat) which only takes 12 hours as opposed to 3 days!
