Having heard fellow travellers raving about this place we decided our trip of Argentina wouldn't be complete without a visit to Bariloche, otherwise known as 'The Switzerland of Argentina'. We were met on arrival at the bus station by Geraldo who has kindly agreed to host us for a few days. Communication wasn't a problem as he was half italian so spoke very good english. We proceeded straight to his best friends house for a Sunday afternoon Asado (BBQ).  Greeted by 2 very large dogs and 5 friends who were all really warm and welcoming, making us feel relaxed after a long overnight bus journey. Set in beautiful countryside with stunning scenery, autumn leaves adding to the beauty of the treelined mountains. We spent the afternoon sat outdoors in the sun, chatting, eating, drinking and listening to music. Late afternoon we were taken for a drive along the lake, taking in some breathtaking views as the sun slowly set, arriving to Geraldo's house, exhausted and in desperate need of a good nights sleep.Â
Expecting something very bachelor like as he told us he had designed and built it himself we were surprised to find a really cosy home built solely from wood. It was like something out of hobbit land! We felt like little wombles hehe. We slept on the top floor, awoken by the sun beaming through the windows giving us an amazing view of the surrounding woods. Geraldo was the perfect host, giving us a spare set of keys so we had the freedom to come and go as we pleased. We were graced by the company of his dog a siberian Husky, he was large and very over excited everytime we would meet him.....he was our little guardian....
we ventured into town on numerous occasions, making our way back later than expected with dusk long gone.....no lamps or lights to guide the way we disembarked from the bus and made our windy way back to his home on the hill! Darkness left us feeling anxious with wilder noises and not enough carrots eaten to give us good night vision! A cute house stood at the start of our circuit home, with a roaring fire and home made foods wafting through the air....are we really in a 3rd world country or just the picturesque rocky mountains...for we really felt we were there.
The city held no real charms, we searched for car providers who were offering 'deals' of extortionate prices and therefore limited our sightseeing to the beauty of bariloche. Taking a cable car to the top of the mountain with exceptional 360 deg views....unfortunately the treking path was closed and instead we enjoyed the views with alcoholic beverages in hand.....which also included the revolving restaurant (leaving Dal feeling giddy and Maz being interviewed for a radio talk show with limited spanish )
Overall a very tranquil visit to this town with ski season on the back burner but autumn leaving us feeling all warm and fuzzy!
