Necochea is a tranquil beach resort where we hung our hats for 4 days. Allowing us to chill out, catch a tan and get to know some of the locals who were surprised by our presence as its not a tourist hotspot and is mostly frequented by Argentine families. It is also well known for its large dense pine forest nearby the beach area, wonderful for trekking, cycling, meditation, taking in the scents and smells. Necochea beachside is brimming with artesenal chocolate shops, which worked out great as it was in the midst of celebrating Easter! Huge chocolate eggs displayed in the windows, luring unsuspecting tourists!!!! Dal especially :)
We found Necocheans to be wonderfully helpful, understanding and very patient! When they spoke it was like they were singing, Maz had it down to a T by the end of our stay...."Bueeennnnnnnoooooo" ......"Muuuuuy Bieeeeeeeeeeennnnnnn"
On the day of Dal's birthday we decided to hire bikes to explore the city, taking interesting roads, enjoying the forest area near the beach, wonderfully placed wooden cabins in the middle of nowhere.......further beach side areas that we had not seen, with the included benefit of shipwreck spotting on the coast of the neighbouring city Quequen! We cycled for hours, under the unrelentless heat of the day, finally stopping at our favourite cafe spot, where the soothing coolness of a beer and frappachino once again energised our bodies. Followed by a relaxing evening with a large takeaway garlic pizza and movie in our room......ahhh this is the life! :)
Having purchased an easter egg (well it was easter!!) we were placed into a raffle for the biggest chocolate egg we had ever seen.... heheh! So making our way there on our final day, we waited in the shadows.....with ticket number 69 in hand.....our lucky number...not today!!! We were high on the wave of excitement and enjoyed the humor and lightness of the experience, amazing how our spanish number counting has come along. Â
A beautifully calming lake was situated in the forest of pines....making our way there we were accompanied by a very trendy dog who appeared to be a stray but had a very cool white scarf tied around his/her neck.....hmmmmm! Our new friend by ourside we walked along the beachfront to visit the lake.....making several toilet stops along the way...dogs! Unfortunately other dogs were not so happy to see our new 4 legged companion, leaving it cowering behind Maz for protection. A funny sight to see as our dog was much bigger than its bullies. After spending a couple of hours in contemplation at the lake we ducked into the cafe for a alcohol laced coffee, followed by a relaxing afternoon amongst the sandunes, enjoying the sun and people watching.
It was very hard to find the motivation to leave after having spent such a relaxing few days.  The hotel staff were super friendly, allowing us to keep our room (free of charge) until 11pm when we had to leave to catch the nightbus heading south in search of Penguins and Orca's.
