Corrientes is situated on the Rio Parana, where Paraguay can be seen across the border. Apparently one of Argentina´s oldest cities! But to see the city itself, you would think otherwise. Like the cities visited previously Corrientes retaines alot of its colonial architecture, is very clean and has very much a european vibe.
We arrived in the early hours of the morning via an overnight bus so sleep was in order. We surfaced around midday, trying to find someplace to have breakfast, without much luck we settled on a bakery that served coffee and pastries. Dal and myself trying to be healthy had brown bread rolls with marmalade. Refueled we made our way to the centre, passing an art gallery where we observed some really impressive oil paintings, way out our budget but very thought provoking powerful images. We even managed a conversation with the artist, Andy helping out as his spanish was much more advanced than ours!
The main attraction here is the river bank that separates Argentina and Paraguay, known for its spectacular sunsets. We walked the length of the walkway, resting in gardens where Andy gave Dal a guitar lesson on finger picking. Observing the locals, a hotspot for couples, health fanatics and mate drinking. Lunch was in a health club with an outside seated area overlooking the river. We spent the afternoon in the nearby park, talking, playing and contemplating our next bus ride. Andy deciding to leave the following morning whereas we wanted to relax, see more sights and catch the night bus.
The following morning we said our goodbyes to Andy and headed back into the main plaza strip where we treated ourselves to a luxurious breakfast and checked out the shops (something you cannot do in male presence!). A visit to the Mercado to stock up on goodies before heading to the riverbank to enjoy a picnic and watch the sunset.
Both anticipating our next natural wonder, Iguazu Falls :)
