3rd Full Day -
So i woke up about 8:30am, and guess what? It was STILL pissing it down. I laid in bed till about 9am writing my blog, then got up and played a couple of games of Cheat before breakfast.
We then went over to the communal area and made pancakes for breakfast.
By the time we had eaten and cleaned up it was about 10:30am and there was still a drizzle coming down.
We enquired at reception about what the deal was - it turned out all the rivers had risen so quickly that the camp was cut off, and there was no way of leaving even if you wanted. However this also meant that it was impossible to get to Gorge to do any more walks, plus it had been closed by the rangers anyway. All the walks involve crossing the river via stepping stones... And they are 1-2ft under water.
With nothing else to do we all played kick tennis at the camp again while the drizzle was coming down, and just generally messed around till lunch.
We had hotdogs for lunch, then we put up the table in the caravan so we could sit in there and play cards properly. We played for a while then Fenealla came and told us we were going down to the river again, like the day before, because the rain had stopped properly!
We went down to the same river beach area as the day before, and built more stone towers. Australian Mark and I built a pretty impressive one which was about 4ft tall.
We then walked back up towards the river crossing area again, stopping to throw rocks at floating logs, just like holidays in Wales.
It was clear the river had risen a lot - cars were still getting across, but that is the easiest crossing, all the ones after it werent possible to cross.
Having played stone skimming competitions etc we came back to the camp. It was a kids birthday who had been playing football with us, so we all went over and played piñata etc for a little while.
We then came back over to the camp and played cards, again, as the drizzle had started again and it was begging to get dark.
Later on we went back over to the cooking area and had SpagBol for dinner then sat around and had a couple of beers. Australian Mark was teaching us all how to do card tricks, which was really cool! I'm hoping I can remember them all to show Tom when I get home, as he would be really impressed.
We all eventually went to bed early again at about 9:30pm.
