Well we both got up about 9am after less than 4 hours sleep feeling....fresh hahaha. Having raided the paracetamol and put away a few glasses of water the headaches eased a little, but didn't make a difference to the churning stomach! Craig left for work about half 9 as planned, so we said goodbyes and vowed to meet up in the UK if he doesn't make it to Bali.
I was left at the house so had a shower, tidied up a bit and then set off for Spot X about 10:30am. I was going through Sydney and came across a Maccas, so went and had a large meal to see if it would shake the hangover and wake me up a bit...it didn't.
I got out the rest of Sydney miraculously easily, didn't in counter any tolls or much traffic at all, I was stoked! I guess it was on the highway North within and hour, with another 7 hours to go or something.
Other than a petrol stop about 12/1ish I drove solidly until 4pm, when I just had to stop again for food...more Maccas. My body is probably highly unimpressed with the treatment it has received over the last 24 hours!
The driving was fine, mostly cloudy but dry for the majority, until I was north of Newcasle, when I drove straight into a storm and everywhere was soaking. There were a couple of sketchy aqua planing moments, but fortuneately that was it.
It was nice driving along the highway in the opposite direction to when I was coming down, thinking 'been there' to lots of the signs off the side of the road!
I set off again from Maccas with the last 2/3 hours to go at about 4:30pm. The final bit of the drive was fine, and after a short break and some food I had almost shrugged off my hang over.
There was still an hour of light when I got to Woopi and the Emerald Beach turn off, so I thought why not go and check the surf. I was surprised to find 1-2ft of glassy little waves, so decided I would go for a paddle.
I couldn't be bothered to put my wetsuit on and thought I would only be out 40 minutes or so anyway, so just went out in boardies. It was SO nice in the water I couldn't believe it! I don't even remember March being as warm as that, it was prefect temperature, even late in the evening.
I surfed for an hour right into dark with 1 other guy which was really nice, and washed away the last of my hang over. From there I then drove the last 15 mins up to Spot X.
It was weird coming back yet again, but just as good as before to catch see everyone again and catch up! Most people were watching a movie, so I chilled with Dan and Daveo, with their respective Mrs's...the English twins! I slowly saw all the others again and caught up, and then crashed in GHQ about 11pm absolutely exhausted.
I wouldn't like to have to do that drive again, 10:30am to 7:30pm, after 3 hours sleep and a hefty hangover. It was worth it through to get it all done in 1 day and be able to crash at the camp..
