Well tonight was probably my last night sleeping in the car.. I'll crash at Craig's tomorrow night, in GHQ at Spot X after that and then I will be 'home' back in Queensland. I think I will miss it in a way, I've got so used to it. Although I won't miss having to move all my stuff around and making my bed from scratch each night before I can go to sleep!
I guess yesterday was also my last day really on my 'roadtrip', as from here on its just heading back to the start with a few stops on the way. Again, I will miss being able to just cruise around to where ever I like, whenever I like. Although I am really pleased with how much I have been able to see in the time I've had. I have been pretty thorough at seeing what was the majority of the 'East Coast' (all be it the surfable section anyway..). The only 'problem' is it has only fueled my desire to what to see the vast amount of Australia I Havnt been able to see.
I'm writing this now from 'tomorrow', as I didn't get the chance to finish it 'today' after the crazy day I had;
When I got up there wind was strong southerly, just blowing out all the beaches in the area making a surf a no go. It's a shame as I was hoping to get 1 more good session in before I moved off.
I headed for Sydney and Craig's place, but was coming into the outskirts in the middle of rush hour. As I was in no hurry I found a Maccas and stopped in there for over and hour, using the Internet as usual and letting the traffic subside. When I got on the road again it was much quieter and the remainder of the drive was a breeze, I was pleasantly surprised.
Unfortunately Craig had been asked to work last minute, so he left me a key under the plant pot and said I had free reign on the house until he was back at about 6pm, which was really nice of him! I had a shower etc and a big lunch, then contacted Flo and set about finding my way round a bit.
It didn't take long to sort out which bus I was meant to be getting, and it turned out from Craig's place in 'Stanmore' it's only 1 bus for 10/15 minutes right into the middle of the city, which was perfect! I met Flo in Circular Quay and we went off round the Opera House etc on just a random wander around. It was really cool to meet up with her, all be it a bit strange seeing a friend from home on the other side of the world, but great all the same!
When we got down to Darling Harbour we stopped at a bar down by the water and had a few drinks, but by about half 5 it was getting too cold and people were starting to come down drinking for a night out - the Aussies start and finish early.
We got a bus back to the central station area, where we said goodbyes and I hopped on a bus back to Craig's and Flo took a train back to her uni halls.
When I got back Craig had just got home from work, so we sat out in his little decking area in the garden sinking a few beers. It was SO good to have a catch up with him, as he left camp the same day as me and the boys, and I hadnt seen him since. It was interesting to see what he had got up to since, I.e. living in a 2 bed house in Sydney and working for Oakley!
Later when we ran out of beers at home he decided to show me a night out in 'Newtown', another suburb near where he lives. We went to an Irish bar and basically just spent the whole night reminiscing about what we had done on our travels, and what was next. It was really really cool to be able to just catch up.
Having not eaten since about mid day, skipping dinner, and starting on the beers about 4pm by the time we got home about 2:30pm it is fair to say I was half cut, but Atleast we were both in the same boat! When we got back we ended up watching a tour DVD for 'Parkway Drive' who are a really heavy band from Byron Bay. Some of the footage of places they went and played etc like Bali and India was absolutely incredible!
We eventually both went to bed about 5am ish by which time our hang overs were already starting! Craig was working the next day and had to be up at 9am, and I was going to leave not long after, so there wasn't much opportunity for much sleeping!
