We finally decided what we were going to do to waste a bit of time while we wait for the water levels to decrease up north and the road to dry out a bit. lets head for Ayers Rock and Kings Canyon.
Headed for Ayers Rock and booked into the caravan park into the same site that Neil and Sharon had used back in 2009.
So Tanya and Terry finally made it to Ayers Rock, after their failed attempt in 2008 (not sure if the year is correct as there is some debate between Terrry and Tanya as to what year their trip was).
Tanya was very happy that circumstances allowed them to come and see the rock. As most first timers to the area do, they think they can see the rock when they actually see Mt Connor, which is about 100km before Ayers Rock.
We stopped and had a look at Mt Connor from the little car park and took some photos of Lake Armadaues which is a salt lake nearby. You dont even know that the lake is there until you climb the small sand dune near the parking area and look out the back.
finally arrived at Ayers Rock and setup camp.
Tanya surprised Terry by booking them to go on the Sounds of Silence dinner in the desert where you get to watch the sunset on the rock and have kangaroo, emu, crocodile and baramundi for dinner with silver service. A truly magical experience (Neil Sharon Melanie and Joanna had done the dinner back in 2009).
Melanie and Joanna walked over the the small sand dune in the middle of Ayers Rock Resort and watched the sun go down on the rock and to take some pictures.
Neil and Sharon and the girls settled in back at camp to a similar meal consisting of sausages from the BBQ, garlic mushrooms, and vegies topped off with some creamy garlic pepper sauce. Not quite silver service with million star views, but pretty good all the same.
Terry and Tanya arrived back at camp at about 11.30pm with Tanya very excited about her night.
