Still at Ayers Roack Campground and decided to go and walk the Olgas (Kata Juta).
We had planned to get up at 5.30 and watch the sunrise over the rock but thanks to the staff at Ayers Rock Resort, that did not happen quite as planned. These thoughtful people decided to have an all night party at their accomodation, which is just a sand dune or two behind us. Loud 'doof doof' music, smashing of beer bottles and yelling/screaming all night until 5.30am. I got sick of it at 4 am and tried to call the Resort, but not one number anwered, not even their five star reception. Called NT police to be told that their policy is to leave it to me to call the people resonsible and then if they do nothing, to call the police back. Tried to tell them that the management would be aware of the party as it was in the staff accomodation facilities, but no luck. called 000 to be told "this is not an emergency call".
Thank you Ayers Rock Resort and NT Police (not).
Got up at about 6 and went to look at the sunrise over Ayers Rock. were there a bit late, but still got to see the color change and some great photos. Had breakfast while we watched. Then headed off to the Olgas. Got there about 9.30am.
Did the Valley of the Winds walk, which is about 7.6km. Spectacular. Neil, Sharon, Melanie and Joanna had done this walk back in 2009 and were really happy to be doing it again as it is so good. Terry and Tanya loved it, especially Terry.
Joanna suffered a bit with her feet and got some blisters (we all told her to suck it up). Whe was pretty tough and walked it out all the way back to the car.
Neil, Melanie, Joanna and Tany then did the short 2km Walpa Gorge walk, with Joanna doing it with her sore feet. Terry and Sharon wimped it and sat in the car with the air-con running.
Got back to Ayers Rock Campground and had a nice chilli con carne made by Sharon. Very nice, but not hot enough for Terry and Neil who had to add a bit of spice.
Sharon, Tanya, Melanie and Joanna then headed off to the Outback Pioneer Hotel to see an abooriginal group who did drumming and dancing. They said it was spectacular and they had a geat night although $48 for 4 x chardies and 2 lemon lime and bitters is a bit of a rip off.
Sharon got up and did the old 70's leg shuffle with them, and Tanya, Melanie and Joanna had a dance as well. Melanie and Joanna were offended by a women who 'palmed' $10 to 2 of the aboriginal girls in the group even though the girls didnt want to accept the money. The group had a donation tin but the woman wanted to give it to the 2 girls.
Off to Kings Creek Station tomorrow for 3 nights.
