Supposed to be staying at the Granites along the Tanami Track tonight, but we are still at Alice Springs.
We are held up by the Tanami Track being closed at the WA border due to Stuart Creek being flooded. These is a cyclone hanging around the WA coast near Cape Leveque and dumping a load of water on the top end, which is all flowing into the Ord River Catchment area around Kunnunura.
The original plan was for us to have left Alice this morning and stay at the Granites, which is about 500 km aong the Tanami Track, and then go to Halls Creek the next day for a 2 night stay. Instead, we are staying in Alice for another couple of nights, and then heading to Ayers Rock and Kings Creek Station to do the Kings Canyon walk with Tanya and Terry (the Davey's did that area in June 2009 and Terry and Tanya missed out on that area during their last trip up here, so it is good in some ways that it has turned out like this)
The dissapointing thing is that we will most probably not get to Kulumburu and Mitchell Falls this year, so Terry and Neil are pretty pissed about that.
They spent most of today repairing terry's UHF radio in his truck which was faulty (disappointing given that he had it professionally installed just before the trip and the fault is dodgy installation).
Sharon Melanie and Tanya spent the day shopping and Joanna did homework all day.
We have spent the time though, lightening our trailer load (we had a lot of wine and beer on board and decided to try to reduce the weight we were carrying)
Will be in Alice until Wednesday morning and then heading to Ayers Rock for 3 nights, then on to Kings Creek Station for another 3 nights. Back to Alice after that for another short break (and reduce the weight in the trailer again) before we decide what to do.
Hopefully the rain will have stopped by then and we can get to Halls Creek, Kununurra and some other places up there.
