Dober dan! (that means hello for all our non-Slovenian blog followers)
Since we last left the blog we jumped on a train from Budapest to the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. Ok now your probably having a little trouble pronouncing this one so just for your benefit we have spelt it phonetically for you: ly-be-yah-na. That's the best we could do, sorry if we offend any Slovenians out there with our poor phonetic skills.
So we arrived in Ljubljana pretty late, it was about 11:30 and to make matters worse it was raining. Thankfully it's not the biggest of cities and our hostel wasn't too far from the station... so we managed on getting there with only getting lost once haha. Pretty wrecked by the time we put our packs down and checked in, it was bed time for these two weary travellers.
The following day we woke up bright and early (10:30am haha!) so we could make the most of our day. First port of call was however breakfast, and as of the gods had answered our prayers we discovered a little Parisian themed cafe which served all the normal breakfast delights we longed for e.g. Eggs, bacon, freshly squeezed OJ. Basically it was heaven! Chloe satisfied her breakfast desires with a big English Breakfast of bacon, ham, tomato, mushrooms, egg, sausages and toast. While Adam exhausted the fire of breakfast desires with eggs Benedict(which was strangely served like a casserol haha, but was still delicious) and many many coffees! Following breaky it was time to explore the treasures of Ljubljana...
We wandered around the town by the ljubljanica river which runs right through the city before deciding to go up to the Ljubljana castle to take in the views of the city from the watchtower. We took the funicular up there with all the senior citizens because quite honestly we could not be stuffed with anymore steps haha. But we couldn't avoid the spiral staircases which lead to the top of the watchtower, luckily the views of ljubljana were well worth it. That wasn't the only little gem of the Ljubljana castle though, we were lucky enough to then experience a 3D film of the history of Ljubljana. All we can say is watch out James Cameron, pretty sure Avatar has nothing on this 3D masterpiece!! Haha!
Leaving the Castle we headed for the nearest bank so we could exchange over the remaining Hungarian forint ($$$) that we had into euro. This proved to be a little harder then it first appeared. We were sent fr one bank to another to the post office then back to one bank and onto another when finally 45minutes later we found someone willing to take the extremely large notes of forint (which amounts to hardly any euro haha) off our hands in exchange for only a few euro back!
We had worked up a bit of an appetite by this time and headed down to a little vegetarian cafe for a quick snack. After lunch we continued exploring Ljubljana, by strolling through markets, seeing the Dragon Bridge, the Triple Bridge and watched a Slovenian childrens choir all dressed up in their traditional outfits. We were getting pretty tired by this time, but managed to sum up enough energy and headed for the park for a stroll before retiring to the hostel. While it began to pour during our walk through the park back to the hostel, it still didn't stop Chloe from playing on every ride on the playground haha!
That night we opted for a night in and used the hostels kitchen to whip up a pesto pasta with cherry tomatoes, feta cheese and pine nuts...amazing dinner! Then we spent the night watching Along Came Polly and American Pie 1 with our roommates at the hostel.
The following morning we managed to stuff around for long enough to almost miss our bus to Bled, but luckily we got on it and were enroute to Bled(not without some hiccups though haha..stay tuned for next episode to find out more!).
Bye for now bloggers, love Adam and Chlo!!
