HEY GUYS!!!!!!
sorry for the hiatis on the Blog front, we havent been able to get internet access until now, you would think it would be easy but unless you have a laptop its quite a mission to find somewhere to use a computer!! so anyway there is much to update on thats for sure, where did we leave off? oh yeah we were off to the Vatican in search of the Pope and boy did we find him!
we started wednesday nice and early with some friends from the hostel and caught a train from our hostel to the vatican and got there about 9am (yes thats right we get up before 9! haha ) when we arrived we noticed a HUGE line to get into the vatican at St Peters Basilica, of course Adam being the sneaky man he found a way for us all to skip the line discretely (which was over50m long mind you!)
when we got into the vatican we noticed we had stumbled into Wednesday Mass which wouldnt you know it was the Popes weekly address to the people, shortly after we grabbed a seat out in his little buggy came the Pope! driving not 5 feet from us!!! Whether your religious or not, that was one amazing experience :) After Mass our little group made a mad dash to the Vatican museum (trying to skip the lines again haha) so we could see the beautiful Sistine Chapel, and let me say beautiful doesnt even describe it. The Museum its self was really facinating so many ancient relics and statues dating back 100,s and some, 1000,s of years. But nothing beats walking into the Sistine Chapel, it is incredible, just absolutely breath taking, and let me tell you you get one hell of a sore neck because you cant help but stare upward it just draws you in :) From the Sistine Chapel we strolled on through to St Peters Basilica (the biggest Church in Italy) which is probably the biggest church i think either of us will ever be able to experience, that place makes you feel so small with its grand ceilings open spaces and amazing art work, it was ENORMOUS. I dont think anyone can quite appreciate the beauty of St Peters Basilica unless you are fortunate enough to experiece the feeling of being there yourself it is truely a magical place, hopefully our pictures will give you an idea ;)
(we hope to get them up soon all 650 thats we have already taken, thats right 650! )
Adter spending another great day in Rome we headed back to aour hostel (a man down mind you, we lost one of our friends in St Peters... yes its THAT BIG) Once we arrived back at our Hostel it was once again PASTA PARTY TIME lol yum nothing beats a free feed when your backpacking!!! our hostel in Rome was heaps of fun, and the pasta party gave us an opportunity to meet some more great people, people who decided to con us into having a night of drinking! and boy did we drink!!! we met a bunch of Americans who decideed to test the theory that no one drinks like us Aussies, i think we showed them!.... i think hahahah
The next morning after having a wild night of Beers, Chiante, wine, Vodka and more Beer we were up at 6:00am... yes you heard right we were up at the disguisting hour of 6:00am!!! we had an early train that would take us from Rome to Verona, a Fast train ride only 3 hours, to the Beautiful city that was the setting for Romeo and Juliet...arhhhh so Romantic :)
When we arrived in Verona we were lucky enough to FREE hire some bikes from Verona station to ride around for the day, although trying to ride a bike with a 20kg backpack on your back was quite the adventure, especially when its about 30degrees outside, we almost stacked MANY TIMES! haha but we eventually made it safely to our accomodation a beautiful little B&B that was obviously made for couples :) After settling in we head off on our bikes to ride around the town, and so far Verona is my (Chloes) favourite, it is no wonder Romeo and Juliet was set here, its exactly how i imagined, the most Romantic little town which even had Juliet and Romeos houses listed on the city map and they were big tourist attractions. We continued on our bikes to a market in the town square that was FANTASTIC! free food tasting (which again for backpackers is heaven!) and the most DELICIOUS food, Mal if your reading this, you havent tried Gorgonzola Pizza until you have had one made fresh infront of you in Verona! OHHHHHH SOOOOOO GOOD!!! (we have pictures dont worry!)
After a Day of riding around and enjoying good food and some sunshine we hit the sack pretty early that night (We were exhausted!!) the next morning (Friday) we were off again to head to Treviso, this was not before having a nice breaky, going for one more walk around Verona and visiting Juliets house :) The train to treviso was okay, although we got confused with our transfer and almost got left behind haha Adam was quick on to the Footy scores aswell, GO THE CATTERS!!!!
We arrived in Treviso at about 4pm and once we had settled in we went for a nice walk and had some dinner, Treviso is a really pretty town and its where Adams Family are based so we were quick to let them know we had arrived :) Today we have a big day planned to see all of Adams family which will be great! they are coming to pick us up soon so i better finish this up quickly :)
we will update as soon as possible i promise, we love you all and miss you all HEAPS!!!
ciao for now :)
