Okay, so first blog update in a while (over a week?)
We've just been spending our time relaxing in Geraldine, helping Nan around the house with work on a Nursing Chair that used to be Granny's that we're re-upholstering with the help of a man called Rod Mcleod who has sessions at the craft mornings on fridays where I do the Creche. So far we've stripped the majority of the varnish off, with a few really minute bits left that we just sanded off when we went over the whole thing and today Nan bought some material to go on it when she went to Timaru today.
I've been attending patchwork sessions with Nan on thursday mornings, the most recent one at the house of Maureen Booth. I started embroidering a bookmark as something to do before Nan and I started my kalbarri bag (pictures up shortly). On Friday evening I went with Nan to the Patchwork winter dinner in which those who had participated showed their patchworks on the theme of "Go Geraldine". The Saturday and Sunday afternoon of the weekend following that Friday Nan and I spent at the St John's hall making the Kalbarri bag at the craft weekend the Patchwork group had set up.
Josh spent Saturday making "Nan Biscuits", two batches, after forgetting to put sugar in the first which he then later rectified by topping them with icing!
All three of us grandchildren have grabbed the opportunity of having a guitar around with both hands and are all progressing with the help of youtube guitar lessons and a handy site dedicated to posting up the tabs and chords to songs Ultimate Guitar, which I started using at home. Josh can now play one song, I'm Yours by Jason Mraz, but is struggling to sing and strum the right rhthym at the same time! I'm slowly learning tabs to songs like Tears in Heaven and have learned the backing to Send Me on My Way by Rusted Root.
Sam found out today that after a long 3 and half months he finally has his Visa and has already started working up at Mt Hutt. Josh and I are eager to go up there again (I might even try snowboarding this time!), but really want to get our Sky Dive and Bungee Jump done first so that we have enough money to do them. The pass which we have to drive through was closed from the snow over the weekend, but we're hoping it will stay clear over the next few days so that we can go down this week. It will cost $60 to get to Queenstown and back, so we think that is probably our best option.
I spent today with Jaime and a couple of her friends Alisha and Kendyl. We went to Geraldine Cinema and watched the Hannah Montana Movie, which I actually rather enjoyed, despite having had reservations about child movie stars also being singers and making films out of it a la Hillary Duff. I stayed for dinner and got to see Jaime's parents Maurice and Rowena again after 8 years away and was nice catching up.
Josh and Sam have been running in the mornings for the last week or so, taking days off on Wednesdays and Sundays, although Josh was lazy today and so needs to make up for it tomorrow, which he has just reluctantly agreed to do! I tried to go for a cycle yesterday, but one of the wheels on Nan's bike has a puncture and so that lasted for about 5 minutes before walking home again! I shall have to find another way to stay fit while out here, especially seeing as there is the option of seconds at dinner time, and pudding (which is quite often a concoction of fejoas with other fruits, hokey pokey ice-cream and caramel sauce!)
Hopefully, if we get down to Queenstown in the next few days, there will be another update shortly
A bientot!
