Today we got up even brighter and earlier than when we went to Hanmer, and set off for Methven at 7am!!
The drive was about an hour and when we got there, we parked at Big Al's Ski shop and got our gear. Everyone was skiing except Josh who wanted to snowboard instead. We got our boots, skis, some got gloves, and I got some "salad pets" (Rosie's interpretation of Salopettes!!) /Ski trousers. The guys in the shop, Shawn and Richard were really friendly, and very amused by our peculiar English behaviour... well, mostly Rosie's peculiar behaviour :P
Then we caught the bus up to the Ski field which was about 45 minutes away, stopping halfway up the mountain for the driver to put snow chains on the wheels.
Sam Sam the Ski Instructor Man got us cheap lift passes for the whole day and also gave Chris, Rosie and Me some well needed lessons before we set off up the lift to the real slopes, also coaching us as we went down. We didn't see Josh much as he was quite content to go off and snowboard by himself (which was better seeing as there were quite some delays, especially when someone fell over! )
There were many wipeouts, mostly mine and Chris', but we had a really exciting day, stopping at about 1 for chicken and apricot sauce sandwiches and some energy drinks before going back out there.
The bus was due to go back down at 4, so we stopped to get our boots off and things together about 20 minutes beforehand and got settled on the bus for the trip back down.
Going back down the mountain, we could see a huge wall of clouds had settled on the mountain, and in some areas there was a blue area of cloud just underneath the surface which looked amazing! (I'll try and put the pictures up from my phone) Then we gave our hired stuff back and headed home stopping at the supermarket in Ashburton for groceries etc.
We had a really nice prawn stir-fry with noodles and a sweet chilli sauce, cooked by Stealth Monkey Chris and settled in the living room watching Brotown.
Thoroughly exhausted, Rosie and I went to bed early (I was in bed by 9!) to rest our aching muscles from a really fun day on the slopes.
