So quite an exciting weekend for me!
Thursday evening Josh and I went with Jaime and her parents to the Jolly Potter for a drink after work which they do every thursday. Maurice's sister Anne was also there with her husband (who's name I can't quite remember :S) and 2 of her kids Dan and ..... another name I can't remember, and t'other son's wife Sarah who have only been married since March. It was really nice to meet them and they were very funny and friendly.
I did a whole day of creche on Friday for the craft weekend which was quite tiring! We had four kids in the morning, and then 2 for about an hour in the afternoon. In the afternoon one of the kids, Bailey, went home because he wasn't feeling very well and his mum had finished whichever class she had chosen.
There were lots to choose from, Nan's friend Georgie who is a "fibre artist" was doing a scarf making class with merino silk fibres which looked really interesting. She said that I could do one over at her house which would be cheaper for me, seeing as I couldn't do one then. There was also card making with Betsy, who goes to Nan's patchwork group and another card-making with parchment and things with a woman called Marla. Also, a plate-painting class and Upholstery with Rod Mcleod, which Nan did and got Granny's nursing chair finished. It looks really good and Nan is very pleased with how it's turned out.
Saturday morning I spent at the craft creators again but I didn't get any children coming in til about 10:50 and I nearly went home before because I was told I could, but decided to stick around and try tatting - which is alot harder than I thought it would be! The child who came in was only about 3 months old I think and he wasn't any hassle, although when we did get a bit grumpy, Hillary arrived for the afternoon creche session and took over. I'd been feeling a bit funny in the morning and hoped that it wouldn't stop me going to Twizel in the afternoon for Jaime's brother's 21st birthday, but I didn't really think much of it. I went home at about midday to get my things ready.
Jaime picked me up at 2:30 and we left her house about 10 minutes later. We picked up her Granny and Grandad who live just down the road from Nan's and we set off. Jaime and I were in the very back seat of the truck where there wasn't much leg-room (well, not for my long legs anyway) so the journey took it's toll on my knees, but we stopped at Tekapo to stretch my legs which felt soooo good!
We arrived at Jordan's house in Twizel at 5:00 and just sat talking for half an hour before Jaime's parents and grandparents went on to the restaurant to meet Jaime's other grandparents. It was cool to hang out with Jordan and his house mates and girlfriend and he couldn't get over how tall I'd gotten, although he'd been drinking since 9 in the morning so that was probably why he kept saying it!
We walked to the restaurant for 6 which was only a five-minute walk away, but it was quite chilly and I'd left my jacket at Nan's, but I didn't complain. When we arrived, I was introduced to Jaime's grandparents on Rowena's side, and Nanna remembered me (not that I could remember her :S) She was quite friendly, despite not being a favourite among Jaime and her parents, but Nanna clearly adores Jordan.
I had the fresh fish which was battered in a really light crispy batter, with chips and a yummy salad with tartare sauce. I didn't remember ever trying tartare sauce before, but I had a taste and really like it! Jaime had salad, bacon, avocado, tomato and aioli and got the mick taken out of her for never having so many greens on her plate!
Jordan's girlfriend Hayley had organised a birthday cake for him and we all sang Happy Birthday after our meal. It was ice-cream cake which I'd never had before and it had vanilla, strawberry and goody gum drop flavour which was yum!
We got back to Geraldine at around 10ish which was quite good timing, and Jaime and I were very tired so we went to bed shortly after arriving back.
Unfortunately, that funny feeling from earlier manifested itself in the morning and I spent all on Sunday laying in bed at Jaime's recovering. Jaime and I had arranged to go back down to Tekapo to the Snow Centre with a couple of her friends from Temuka to try the snow tobogganing and I was really disappointed that I couldn't go, because I was feeling terrible, but didn't want to ruin the trip by being ill. However, I insisted Jaime went because she shouldn't miss out just because I'm feeling terrible and has spent all day there. We both agreed that we should go down again before I leave, and I'll see if Josh wants to come with us too.
I go back to Nan's around an hour ago and have just been gingerly getting back to normal. I slept from about 9.30 til 4 and I'm not feeling 100% yet. It shouldn't last much longer I don't think and I'll be fine in a day or so, ready to get back to my schoolwork, which I've been making great headway with so far.
I'll update this if Josh has anything to say about this weekend, he's visiting our old dance teacher Sharon this afternoon and isn't back yet so I'll ask him then.
I'm getting quite excited about coming home, it feels like it's been ages, but then it also feels like it hasn't been long enough and has all gone by so quickly. I'll be sad to leave here, but I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again and getting back into a routine. Only 12 days til I get on the plane for another 27-hour long flight back to the northern hemisphere!
Lots of love to everyone back home, I'll update you again soon
