Hey!
Yesterday Josh and I got on the Atomic Shuttle to Queenstown and arrived at around 2.30, a long journey made easier by watching Chuck on Josh's phone.
We quickly set to work on getting things booked and finding our Backpackers, The Flaming Kiwi. Josh and I went into The Bungy Shop and booked a Nevis bungy for me and a Nevis Arc for Josh for today at 10.30. We then set out in the wrong direction to find our accommodation and had to walk to the other side of Queenstown. It's pretty basic, a port-a-cabin with a bunk bed, double on the bottom, single up top, and a bedside table. C'est la!
Josh and I ventured back into the town and had a look around, passing some really cool shops (one was similar to Willow with some cool hippy clothing that Josh wanted!) and some very expensive ones like Louis Vuitton! Which they can get away with here with the amount of tourists flooding in daily! Josh and I passed a cinema that was showing Ice Age 3, so we couldn't resist booking a ticket for that evening at 7.10 and decided to go to Fergburger for a bite to eat. In the picture, you see me attempting to devour a "Big Al" which I succeeded in doing I might add!
Afterwards, still having a bit of time before the movie started, we tried to find somewhere that could get us a relocation hire car to get to Wanaka and on to Christchurch for Friday so that we didn't have to catch the bus to Wanaka, back and then back to Geraldine. Unfortunately, we couldn't find anything and some rental places were closed. So, we decided to go on to the Cinema a few minutes early. It was a really good film, but we had an incredibly annoying family sat behind us making a running commentary throughout the whole film, which Josh and I found very frustrating! Josh and I went back to our prison, I mean room and watched Chuck before getting to bed after a long day.
Today we got up to get to the Bungy Shop for 10.00 to wait for the bus to take us up to the bungy site at 10.30. Our driver, Andy was very amusing and there were some funny songs to put us on edge (eg. Vertigo - U2, I Believe I Can Fly etc). When we arrived, we quickly got harnessed and went to the lookout spot before boarding a human sized chip pan to get us to the cable car dangling in the Canyon. We were with a group of 6 scottish travelers and 2 guys from Devon. They were all very friendly and offered me words of encouragement while I waited (despite two of the scottish girls only being spectators!) I was the penultimate jumper, and sat very nervously in the big black chair that Andy had warned us about. I quickly got strapped in attached to my bungy cord and before I knew it I was shuffling to the ledge to jump. I didn't want to chicken out and knew that I would just have to go for it, so when the girl counted down I jumped. There was 8.5 seconds of freefall which, at the time, felt like 8.5 hours, but now when I think about it, it went by in quite a rush! The feeling of having nothing there to stop you plummeting to your death before the cord starts working was terrifying and I screamed... lots and loudly!
When I got back up, we traversed back over the canyon to the shed to look at the photos and video. While my photos and DVD were being printed and burned, I walked with Josh to the Arc booth to watch his swing. Josh was harnessed in by his waist and hooked onto the cables. After being lifted away from the booth, Josh swung himself upside-down to do his Superman swing! He let the operators make his release a surprise which I thought was incredibly brave, or stupid I'm not entirely sure which! Afterwards we collected my souvenirs and ordered Josh's which he had to pick up back at the bungee shop because the bus was leaving.
We arrived back in Queenstown at about 12.45ish and set off for a walk around. We stopped at the Naff Caff for a panini and hot chocolate before dropping our things back to our room and heading to the Gondola. We booked the Gondola and 2 Luge rides which would allow us to try the Fast track after having to do the scenic track. Josh was a very reckless driver, going WAY too fast and nearly wiped out OVER a barrier that was supposed to be a slow area near the finish... typical!
Josh and I came back down to the centre and walked around again. Josh has been booking and cancelling numerous skydives, but when we tried to book the Atomic Shuttle back to Geraldine at 3pm tomorrow, we found that it was fully booked so we had to book a coach at 8.10am back instead, Josh sacrificing his skydive so that we could make it home.
We have been sat in the Bungy Shop using their computers to update this and wanted to put up our photos, but I realised that I left mine in our room and Nan doesn't have a DVD player on her computer, so we may be back to put up my photos. Josh has been causing lots of trouble this visit, after putting his DVD into the computer, which is an iMac by the way DAD (hint hint! :P) , to upload the photos and getting it jammed in the computer and having to get himself logged off and back on again by one of the Bungy Shop's employees!
We may be back later to put my photos up, if not, I may have to borrow a friend's computer when we get back to Geraldine, but for now we're done.
Hope you've enjoyed reading about our Queenstown escapades and keep a look out for more photos soon! x
