Today, John, Mira & I travelled into the mountainside in Switzerland. This blog will have three parts as we had three major destinations. The first was Grindelwald - we saw 3 mountains - the Eiger, Monarch & Jungfrau, all quite famous. We had lunch in the meadows 'beneath' the Eiger. The photo shows a figurine overloking the Brienersee (lake) at Interlarken on the the way to Grindelwald.

We had to make the most of every minute today. After lunch we headed off to a canyon that was opened to the public in 1888 - known as Aareschlucht. We walked from the west entrance to the east & back. The paths created along the southern side of the canyon took us along wooden walkways and through tunnels carved out of the surrounding rock. On the way out of the hills & back to Kilchberg we stopped at Steingletscher, in the Urner Alps, along Sustenpass - 2270m at the top of the pass. This glacier is about 4 kms long and stretches along the tops of a series of mountains. Unfortunately at the lower regions near the lake, the glacier has melted away, but it is visible in the upper sections and is quite specky.
