The weather forecast for today was 24 degrees and sunny.
Mira phoned a friend who has a good knowledge of places to visit. So we headed for the hills. Amden was our destination.
The mountains surround a lake - Balen See. It was a pearlescent aqua colour. Everything was so lush and green that the photos don't do it justice. THe houses looked like chalets dotted throughout the landscape both low and high.
We drove up from Amden to gain a better view of the lake and mountains. Arvenbuel was just up the road and sat 1256m above sea level. A leisurely walk up to Chapf lookout (1266m above sea level) provided the view we were looking for. There we had lunch, relaxed and took in the view - watching boats pass along the lake and a glider & birds of prey riding the thermals; and greeting others with "gruezi" which is Swiss for hello, in reality (god greets all).
John hung around for ages, determined to see the top of Murtschenstock a mountain 2441m high. The clouds almost revealed the top of this tallest monutain in the area.
Went back to Arenbuel Hotel Restaurant for coffee & plum cake - a local 73 year old recipe - yummy.
We had a superb day.
