Another road trip.
I'm feeling much better today.
We headed off for Basel up north near the French and German border on the Rhine. Every morning when we watched the weather report on TV, we would see pictures of Basel so we had to see it for ourselves.
We spent the whole time in the old town. Cars were a rarity as the streets were extremely small. Bikes were prominant and were parked everywhere. Trams and buses travelled back and forth across the river. The speed at which the water flowed down the Rhine was amazing.
We went up to the well known Baseler Munster, an Evangelistic church - it had 2 towers and we could climb to the very top of both towers. The views over the river were brilliant. The stairs we climbed were so narrow that my backpack had developed a hole as it was rubbed by the walls.
From the top we spotted a red tower with intricate tile work - in the distance.
We walked a far way and found that the tower belonged to the Town Hall a most prominant building in the town. It was highly decorated with friezes and bountiful colour and lots of red. The gates to the building were ornate black metal.
Again the countryside was lush & green.
