Today we headed off to Bad Ragaz with the aim to see lots of mountains, a deep ravine & parts of Switzerland into which we haven't ventured.
We took the scenic route - thus avoiding the Autobahns and driving through the beuatiful swiss countryside and into the steep narrow roads that lead to mountains.
The first stop was Mt. Santis, which was steep and rugged with traces of snow still visible even though it 32 degrees & very hot.
We considered taking the gondola ride up to the top of the mountain - 2501m high, however, 2 things put us off. the first was the number of buses that kept coming up the resort area and the other was that the gondolas could take 85 people - not our cup of tea.
As a result we went in search of some adventure. We followed a deep ravine for quite a while, stopped took pictures and travelled up steep roads that had more hairpin bends than one could count. At one stage we ended up what was the width of a one way road but was actually two way & hoped like hell that we didn't come accross any oncoming traffic & luckily the adventurous swiss walk/hike through these areas, so we were safe.
Another road we took ended up to be a narrow track that led us to a farmers property, so a hair raising u-turn was performed by John who drove brilliantly all day whilst I did the panicking.
We travelled along the Rhine valley & made it Bad Ragaz where we had lunch.
On the way back to Kirchberg we decided to venture into Liechtenstein and drove through its capital city - Vaduz. We spotted a couple of castles one of which is today's photo.
The day turned out to one full of fear, excitement & adventure and we saw incredibly rugged mountains & green valleys.
