Up a little later this morning and started work at 6am. One of the guys went to bed early last night so didn't know we didn't have to meet until then, he was down at 5:30am and had already set breakfast up! We had nothing to do except take the piss out of him! That would teach him for sneaking off early!
So we had a super easy start then went on our last dive which was on Norman Reef again. I made a sign last night saying Happy Birthday Mum and took it down with us, it was a bit awkward taking a photo with it because the current was pushing me towards the coral and the visibility was a little blurry where we kicked up the sand. After a few attempts Chris managed to take a cool shot. He took the sign from me then swam back to the boat to hand it back then came back over and we started our dive. We saw a white tip reef shark, two sting rays, a family of true nemo clown fish, a trigger fish, puffer fish, bat fish, lots of colourful coral and all the rest. It was a really good dive to finish on.
After a nice hot shower we were back to work. We served breakfast then cleaned up, Chris stayed in the kitchen and done the dishes while I got stuck bloody hoovering again! I swear I must be doing far too good a job. Chris eventually came out and joined me, he had to polish everything that was wooden then polish the sofas! Neither of us have ever heard of polishing a sofa before!
At 9:30am the new guests arrived, all three of them. For some reason the boat is really quiet lately, there's more hosties than guests! Me and Chris took their bags and showed them to their cabins then we cleaned our room before checking out of it. Chris brought all of our dirty washing on board so we could take advantage of getting it washed for free! I think it was quite cheeky lol!
After changing the beds and cleaning a bit we packed our stuff up, then we set up for lunch and served everyone, Murray made chicken curry! Hooray we had finished work. Just then I remembered I had to clean the sign I wrote on before we left. I grabbed a bucket with bleach and started scrubbing on the deck, it was all in permanent marker so it took a while to remove! I asked the dive crew if the beach was harmful to the corals etc but they assured me they only had bio products which are ok.
We said good bye to everyone and transferred over to the Reef Experience. Staying last night was so worth it because we got to snorkel with the turtles again, this time Chris didn't forget the camera. Last time we saw so many turtles but today we only saw two! It didn't matter though, we got some really cool photos of ourselves swimming along with them. As we were swimming along over the shallow areas I suddenly noticed Chris pull his hand up, he said he got stung by some soft coral trying to pick up a baby star fish! He still managed to get it but he said his arm was bloody hurting! We decided to get out and dry off, his sting didn't look too bad but he said he could still feel it. There wasn't anything we could do so he had to leave it.
On our way back to Cairns we got a glass of wine, cheese and crackers again. The sea was so choppy and a few people felt sea sick. I was more worried about spilling my wine! It got so bad at one point it felt like the boat could capsize! It was quite fun though.
We arrived in the harbour at 4:30pm and walked back towards Gilligans, we decided to try Corona Backpackers directly opposite this time as it was $20pp pn for a four bed room, it saved us money so we booked it for two nights, Jonas decided to stay as well. They also offer a free dinner at a local pub, it has to be better than Gilligans crap!
We spent the rest of the afternoon on the internet then we walked down to the Woolshed pub for our free meal at 8pm, we weren't expecting much but it was actually quite good and a decent size meal. We headed back, Jonas had some beers so Chris stayed up for a bit drinking and talking to him. I didn't want any, I was shattered so just went to sleep.
