Last Day at Mother Teresa's
I can't believe two weeks has gone by! I want so badly to stay longer but still feel that I made some great relationships at work even though most of the men and I communicated in different ways and with little spanish. I will admit, I have seen a difference in my spanish skills since I first arrived only a couple of weeks ago. My listening skills have definitely improved and my speaking...well Im surprised people understand me but hey...Im trying!
Last day went well. Lots of kisses and of course massages. I worked my little butt off massaging away so that I could have at least 10 minutes with most of the men I worked with these last couple of weeks. My little Tito was by my side all day and I even managed to get a picture of him with my Boston Red Sox cap, too cute. Im looking forward to framing a picture of him when I get home to keep in my apt or maybe my office. He just melted my heart, muy dulce!
One of the men, Ricardo's roomate, who is blind but recognizes my voice was so sweet today. As soon as I come into the room and say "Buenas Dias" he says aloud, "Carlita!" I'm going to miss that. I massaged his two legs and feet, yes feet. He spoke to me for a bit and then touched my face trying to feel what I look like I suppose. "Ah bonita" was his response. He pointed to his heart and head which I believe to mean that he'll remember me. I must be an emotional mess over here bc I got teary-eyed again and had to say goodbye.
Winter has definitely begun here because I wore my winter coat all day yesterday and its pretty chilly but mostly damp today. I was wrapping lots of men in little scarves and hats. While doing so though, I thought how nice it was that people have donated all these clothes to these less fortunate men. They all were dressed well enough for the weather today.
The two employees I work with at Mother Teresa's asked me to go out dancing Saturday which will be a blast. So, tomorrow night Ill be attempting salsa with two Peruvian men (no worries Robito....( and Im sure Ill be the only gringa on the dance floor and it will show! Im looking forward to it nevertheless and it's just a warm up for the tango in Argentina!
Tomorrow Im planning on doing last minute shopping and taking in the last views and smells of Lima before I leave for Argentina on Sunday night. Im also a little excited about the idea of a queen size bed and no more top bunk, Im not going to lie, ha!
I may write tomorrow or the next blog will be sent to you from Buenos Aires, Argentina! Getting excited about my new adventure to come. Talk soon. XO
