First Weekend
I cant believe a week has already gone by! I decided to stay in Lima for the weekend and get a good feel for the surrounding areas. Still making decisions about next weekend before I fly to Buenos Aires.
Well all I can tell you about Friday night was that it was definitely confirmed that where I went was meant to me. Also a confirmation that it is a small world. I had found a very European looking street in Miroflores with some friends the other night and wanted to go back to the jazz club. I took two different people from the house with me and of course, took an hour to walk around and not find it. I felt terrible that I made the girls walk around with me. We were in the center when someone approached us and was Peruvian-Australian (go figure). She asked if we knewf the street we had been walking on forever. We laughed and were giving her directions when she asked about the same jazz club we were looking for! So off went the four of us with a fluent spanish speaker to lead the way.
Instead of jazz, Friday night is salsa and is it ever! It was unbelievable. I am always amazed at how the latin blood kicks in and people really know music and dancing. There was a large band with 3 trombones, sax, 3 different types of drums and bongos etc. It was such entertainment to watch people dancing. I only dream that the gringa I am could dance like that! I truly enjoyed myself and also discovered that Pisco Sours can be changed from whisky to tequila, enough said.
Its a small world bc the girl we met and went with to the bar, Maria, her fiance is Czech. they are getting married in Prague next month so we had a lot to discuss. Later while watching the amazing people dance salsa I notice some gringos definitely not dancing the salsa. They were having a great time but stuck out like sore thumbs with their dance moves. I asked them where they were from and get this....Estonia. Are you kidding me?! So immediately I said [how are you[ in Estonian and they were all excited. The two countries I randomly lived and worked in in Europe were represented that night, pretty nuts.
Thats all for now. The sun has popped out so I want to take full advantage. It seems to break around 11am and last a couple of hours before the gray skies take over again.
PS Britt- Could really use some Charmin To Go rolls....thought of you. I have to bring the horrible European type toilet paper with me to work and you cant flush it either!!! Ugh. Damp TP in your pocket all day is just fantastic. Thought youd appreciate that, ha
