Montevideo, Uruguay
After a 3 hour ferry ride, I finally made it to Uruguay. I honestly didn´t have many expectations but quickly realized after my tour that Uruguay is the best kept secret in South America! Absolutely gorgeous, less tourists, fantastic architecture from Italian and Spanish history, and even cheaper than Argentina!
Because I was only going to be able to visit for a day, I figured the best way to see most of the city was to do a bus tour. Yes folks I, Carla White, went on a bus tour with all couples and spanish speaking old folks. It was quite humorous really. As soon as I got on the bus everyone was taking pictures of their partner while I laughed and took a photo of myself in my seat, ha!
I can honestly say Im a little tired of all the reaction in South America when I say that Im here alone, Estoy sola en South America, Una persona, YES IM ALONE!!!! Why are people so surprised when I go anywhere? Even at restaurants I get a weird look but you know what...I love the quite, stay in my own thoughts moments and wouldnt take it back. Although of course I miss Robito
So Im the freak on the bus who is traveling solo until... a little late- Enrique, my new Mexican amigo shows up alone too! Ah, my peep- another mexican. Reminds me very much of Scotti (my sisters boyfriend) but with dark hair and speaking spanish, ha. Too funny. Lunch on the tour was interesting. They sat me at my own table away from all the other couples, quite funny again, and my little Mexican friend had his own table as well.
After many photos, seeing all different types of neighborhoods, shopping areas, and parks we had an hour to venture. I went straight to the beach with my book (Eat Pray Love which I finished and is fantastic -thank you Sandy) and took in the fresh air. Also thinking to myself, Oh my lord Im in Uruguay! Weird but fantastic! Bumped into a Canadian named Cory who lives and works here and it was so nice to speak English finally that day!
Have lots of pictures to share later and more stories of course. I need to make a reservation for dinner tonight, its my last night here in Argentina! I cant believe Im heading back to Peru for a night and then will be in Logan Airport....where did 3 weeks go??!!
