Im High on Caffeine and Im Loving It!
It´s been sunny all day and the cafe con leche has been pooring like theres no tomorrow! It been a fantastic and relaxing day here in Buenos Aires and I ve observations and stories to share.
My morning began with a cab ride to the ferry to buy my day trip pass to Montevideo, Uruguay. From what I hear, due to the former ruling of Portugal, the cobblestone streets and architecture are supposed to be beautiful. Im going Thursday and Im rather excited to not only see a new country but admittedly to get another stamp on my passport as well! Im lame I know.
My cab driver there was very friendly and actually went to Connecticut for awhile a few years back (thought of you Kate!). He said my spanish wasnt half bad that he could understand me (which I found hard to believe). I explained to him that I wanted him to only speak spanish to me bc I desperately need the practice.
Argentina is exactly what I thought and a bit more. The European feel with archiecture and style is definitely here, weird dialect of spanish is confirmed, but the people....the people! They are more beautiful than I imagined! You fall in love with the person you make eye contact with whether male or female for god sake! (miss you Robito) It has to be the Italian, Portuguese mix.
On with what I did today. Ventured to Palermo, a large neighborhood that is quite different from where I am staying. Mostly a residential place, I visited Palermo Soho and fully enjoyed the quaint streets, many parks, and boutiques. I had lunch outside, with a heater of course, and listened to an Argentinian woman sing acoustic. Im a sucker and bought a CD if youre interesting in hearing her, ha. Did a bit of shopping and feel rather comfortable around this city in less than two days. I took the metro back home which was extremely easy to use, although packed, and here I am.
Im off to find a restaurant for dinner which I know Ill be early for seeing its only 8pm. People really do eat at 10pm, even on weekdays. I take that back, Im going to find a bar to have a nice glass of wine, THEN head to dinner so I dont feel like such a tourist by eating early. THERE.
Tomorrow Ill hopefully be watching some tango and eating thefamous Argentinian beef¨) Adios for now!
