The locals say it's warm, but for a girl of the tropics I have my ever present cardigan on!
Denton (or as it's promoted online - 'little d') is a university town; or I should say a 2 universities town about the same size as Townsville.
The Court house is an imposing building in the central square and the small museum in it proudly shows off all that is Denton Texas, from Bonny and Clyde to ACME bricks! The exhibits in the main room are all explained in both English and Spanish - Texas was a Spanish Colony until the 1800's.
I found a great little coffee shop called 'Jupiters' which is a bit like 'The Sweat Shop' back in Townsville used to be. Loads of coffees, smoothies etc and a bohemian atmosphere. Uni students populate this place, all with their laptops, tablets out because it has free wifi.
And the shops; there is a dress shop called La De Da where I could buy every dress!!! How unusual. Its sister shop next door sells shoes.
There are 2nd hand shops where I could spend all day. Oh wow and I would love to buy loads of stuff and freight home.
The UNT (University of North Texas) has an outreach gallery on the square and there is live music for free on Thursday evenings. Tonight is Classical guitar then Jazz vocals. We listened to the classical guitar recital - excellent. As we walked back to the car the Court House was illuminated and all the trees around it had lights adorning them, it looked magical.
Everyone is very friendly, I have shaken hands with a Desert Storm veteran in his Bike Club regalia. Been wished 'a top of the morning to you'. Had street busking guitarists set up right near us as we had coffee to lighten our day. And last but not least meet Zarina in Juliette's Jewels who would like to come to Australia, so we are Facebook friends now so she knows where the good places are; e.g. Townsville North Queensland when she pops on over!!
Things that are the same, but different!! (AKA similar)
The driver's side in the car.... which I keep trying to sit in as a passenger.
Crossing the road and knowing which way to look so I won't get taken out.
Writing the date... I have to be very careful to write the date back to front now.
At the shops....
Me: How much much do these beans cost per kilogram?
Shop assistant: 88cents per pound madam.
Learning that 'tooling' means the same as cruising.
