This museum and many others don't open until midday on a Sunday because of church; I am in the 'bible belt'
The trip down was an experience in itself as the Freeways are enormous, there are roadworks (called 'construction' over here) almost non stop the entire distance and the off ramps are on the right hand side which I found added to my confusion. We missed our final turn which meant we got off further down the freeway turned around and got back on to retrace our journey to the exit we needed. This meant that we went over the highest overpass in the world, I'm sure. There were 2 other overpasses below us!
Once in the museum it was all peace and serenity. I joined a tour which brought the paintings and sculptures to life as our guide, Janis, was informative and passionate about the collection. I quickly got adopted by a family also on the tour which elevated the experience because it was friendly as well. Texans are proud that they are friendly and it is easy to chat and laugh with people here.
I hope that the photos and commentary about them I have included give some idea of the wonderful things at the museum.
Amon Carter started off dirt poor and was an entrepreneur who became very wealthy and well connected. In his last will and testament he wrote that he wanted this museum to give those who are denied the advantages that the possession of money brings, but who aspire to the higher and finer attributes of life, those opportunities that were denied to him in early life. What an altruistic thing to do do.
