Classic Thailand
We woke up bright and early at 7 .30 so we would get picked up to go to the secondary school at 7.50. however, when our host failed to turn up we called only to find that the school had mid term exams so we weren't needed for the day. I took this opportunity to jump straight back into bed and sleep for another 3 hours. We spent the day doing not a lot and because it was slightly chilly we went to our hosts house to have a hot shower. Over dinner, we asked about cumphai primary only to find out that it was sports day and we weren't needed there the next morning either. Of course this was after we had planned our lessons. So we had yet another unexpected day off school and the entire weekend with not a great deal to do. So we did nothing.
We have started watching one tree hill so worked our way pretty fast through season one and two. Also, because we gave our dvd player to pinuit to be fixed before chirstmas, we of course haven't got it back yet so we had to watch all of this on my laptop on the floor which really isn't that comfortable. We also went to the Saturday market to buy a few bits and bobs and we both decided to get a house plant each. This is the substitute to the chick we wanted to buy when we first got here. It is yet to be named.
Anyway, our weekend wiled away until Monday. This was our hosts birthday so we bought her a little present. Wasn't amazing but its the gesture that counts.
We had to wake up at 5am because there was a school trip to Ubon. The busses were supposed to leave the school at 6 but being thailaind, of course this didn't happen. When finally all the students were on the right bus they then all got off again and prayed to the Buddha shrine thing. Only then were we set to go J
We arrived and a man talked in thai for over 2 hours so we escaped outside and looked at the view. Not a particularly interesting day but we had to the opportunity to go to the shopping mall and bought myself a new bag.
Then we went to Big C (shopping centre) for a couple hours with all the student before finally heading back to loeng nokta at about 8pm. A knackering day.
Then on Tuesday, we headed to the primary school expecting another normal day but not in thailand. It was some kind of ceremony and more speeches being made in thai and the kids did some lam thai (thai dancing). Although, it was actually quite fun. There were lots of snacks going around including sticky rice on a stick. Also got to sample the school homemade honey as it were and even watch them make it. Fun fun fun.
