So, another week or so in thailand and still no teaching. The primary school have some kind of inspection on Friday so they have spent the WHOLE week preparing the school and making it look pretty. They have redone the displays, cut the grass, sweeped the paths, but ribbons up everywhere. Its amazing how much effort they put in. However, it also means that there was not a spot of teaching going on, so maybe next week. I'mgutted because i had planned a whole lesson on colours as well. It'll keep until next week though.
On Monday, Pi Nuit was off sick at the tessoban so we just went home. We took our hosts laptop to Johns Cafe which has internet so spend a few hours catching up and then went to the Monday market for the first time. I know its disgraceful we have been here almost 3 months and still not been but we have now. Essentially, its a giant clothes market which is always good. There are raks of stuff for 35 baht (50 baht is one pound so you can do the maths). So i'm sure i will be returning there soon.
Then Wednesday, we got to make kratong for the loy kratong festival on Sunday. This is basically speciallyt folded banana leaves pinned to a polystyrine circle decorated with flowers. The idea is you put incence and a candle inside and float it down the river as you make a wish. Though ours will probably go rotten before Sunday so will have to make more.
Wednesday we also went to pick our clothes for loy kratong. We are wearing very traditional thai dress. The shop is full of lady boys and looks and feels like a very very packed armstrongs. There are odd clothes packed onto railing at every angle. Finding stuff to fit was an issue but i think we just about managed it in the end. Apart from the fact fleur cant sit down in her skirt.
