New Year
Possibly the best new year I have ever had. After an exceptionally long day and night and 22 hours after leaving Lerng Nokta we arrived at our hotel in Koh Chang. It was described to us as a prison and thats basically what it was. The room was a box with two mattresses on the ground and that is it. But didn't matter because we were hardly in there and it only cost £2 a night so whatever. We arrived on new years eve at about 4 so we went straight to the beach to see everyone else. All the other project trust volunteers were there already. The beach was just so beautiful. Perfect sand and bars and restaurants up and down it. Palm trees a little way in. just the perfect beach. After a swim and things we went ready to go out for new years J
We got in the pre drinks and headed to the beach. We were pretty early though and sat on the sand for a while. Then later went to some of the beach parties that were going on. People were setting of fireworks in every direction and it wasn't even 12 o'clock yet. One of the bars had set up a stage where you could dance on that was about 7 or 8 foot high. I of course went on it later.
At midnight, all of us volunteers reconvened where we had started the night. At 12'clock we burst into hugs and kisses while our feet were still in the sea. Afterwards, we got in a big circle, held hands, and did old lang zyne.It was fantastic. The most fun I have ever had. After that, everyone split up to go dancing at the beach parties and buy drinks etc. I spent most of my night with Frances and didn't get back to the hotel until after 5, only to find Fleur KO'd in Clara's bed. It was a sight to behold but only a sign of a good night.
The next morning, we were super keen and got up at about 9.30 to get the most of the day on the beach. We went and settled ourselves before breakfast. Essentially, we just lay on the beach for an entire day, occasionally going in for a swim. Though there was some mysterious stinging things in the sea that shortened most of our trips. The water btw, was amazingly warm. It didn't even feel like the sea.
That night we were all ready to go out again and headed to the beach which was completely empty. Apparently everybody had partied hard enough the night before and needed a night off so we went to the bar across the road from our guest house called ting tong. Started chatting to some awesome people. There was an amazing Canadian couple who were just so lovely, and various others besides. Despite there being no people out, still managed to not go to bed until after 6.
Unfortunately on the way home we missed a bus and had to stay an extra night in Trat. But it wasn't so awful. We stayed in an amazing guest house that was still cheap and even got an entire day in Bangkok. It also meant that were in Bangkok for my birthday with other people rather than just me and fleur in our house in Lerng Nokta which might have been a bit depressing. So we went to the cinema to see "The Tourist" which was good I suppose. Essentially a very good birthday.
The whole weekend was indescribable. It was simply so much fun and relaxing. The best beginning to the year I could have hoped for.
