I am having to remember this day some time after the event as the app on my phone has decided not to work and my posts are saved on there.
Anyway on this day we visited the paddy fields in Long Ji. This was an amazing place. We had a long ride to the place and then another 50 minute coach ride from the bottom up to the entrance. Needless to say we then had to walk up the mountain which was just a path at first. We soon came to steps. Along the route were various stalls but Tary was determined we weren't going to do any shopping and he kept us moving on up.
Part way up we stopped for lunch. There were quite a few hotels etc up the mountain. It was an amazing place. The food was great too.
After lunch most of us continued our ascent - up the steps of course. After a couple of wrong turns we made it to the viewing platform. Unfortunately it was raining the whole time, although I wasn't as wet as the day before. At the top there was a fair bit of mist so not sure the photos will be much good and they certainly won't be able to convey what we saw. Below us were terraces of rice fields. It was like a piece of art.
Tary said we could have 15 minutes up there but some of them left early to make their way down as it was so wet. Or that is what I thought until we went down and caught them shopping! When they saw Tary coming there was a little bit of a panic but I don't think he spotted them.
Once back down we had to get the coach to the bottom. It was much busier than when we came up and the hair pin bends seemed a lot more scary than on the way up although the views were great. The road that wrapped around the mountain didn't seem wide enough when other vehicles were coming towards us. I'm just glad I wasn't driving.
Safely back to our minibus we headed for Guilin airport and a late evening flight to Shanghai.
Once at the airport we had to check in and have our luggage weighed which was a bit of a scary moment for some of us who have liked to shop. Fortunately the group was allowed a total weight and we came in well under that. Once through security we headed for the coffee shop. OMG the price of the drinks. It cost £5 for tea (more for coffee). This was a big shock to all of us as things have been much cheaper elsewhere.
The flight itself was good but we thought we were getting dinner and we were only served a sandwich - but not as we know it! I should have taken a photo but missed the opportunity. Anyway suffice to say it was appalling. Got to Shanghai about 10.30pm but by the time we had picked up bags and got transport to the hotel it was well past midnight.
