This is the third time I have typed this so hoping third time lucky!
We started our day in Shanghai with a visit to the Television Tower. Tary gave us strict instructions about what to do and how long to be as he wasn't going up with us. We took the lift to second floor for an amazing view of Shanghai. Need I say it was vast? The skyscrapers were everywhere to be seen and some of them are actually pretty amazing in style. Lovely to watch the boats along the river as well.
It was pretty busy up the tower as there was a group of students all dressed in the same track suits paying a visit. I think we were actually a highlight of their morning as they queued up to be photographed with us. I think we all still find that very amusing.
As instructed by Tary we walked down to level 1 and those who wanted to walked over the clear floor which gave you a view of the ground below - about 270m down! Rhonda and I actually ran all the way round, ducking and diving around people taking photos. However when we got to the students some of them were lying on the floor getting ready for a picture to be taken so we joined them - much to their amusement this time.
Once back down on terra firma Tary took us off for lunch - at 11.30am!! Fortunately it wasn't that good so couldn't pig out when I wasn't very hungry.
After lunch we headed for an area called Yu Yuan. Only walking distance from the restaurant and is now a large shopping area but used to belong to an entrepreneur back in the 1700s. It was his residence and where he did business. It included a beautiful garden and that is where Tary took us before leaving us to wander. I loved it in there. It included an art exhibition which was fabulous and so were the prices!! Bought several pieces - only kidding:)
Once we met up again Tary delivered us to the Bund and again set us free with strict instructions on what time he wanted us back. Five of us made our way to the Bund tunnel which took us under the river to the other side. The tunnel was very unusual as you travel in glass capsules and are entertained with a light show. Once on the other side we headed for the riverbank and viewed the beautiful buildings which reminded Mo and I of Liverpool but obviously on a much bigger scale. It would have been great to have time for a river cruise but that will have to keep for next time.
We all dutifully arrived back in time for our minibus and headed back to the hotel. We ate out at a local restaurant which was gorgeous and then went back to pack:( The original itinerary had us having a free morning in Shanghai on the Thursday however once Tary got the train tickets from the agent we discovered the train was at 11am. It would have been great to have another day or two there but so be it.
