We had a 50 minute drive to catch the boat and that was interesting in itself. Most of the way was on dirt tracks. They are currently building the road so it was a bit of a challenge. The views totally made up for the bumpy ride. There was various luscious shades of green and every direction on the horizon were the amazing limestone mountains covered with trees. Since arriving in Guilin that is what we see on the horizon in every direction. It is phenomenal.
Anyway we arrived at the boat and boarded. It was like a ferry and it took us along the river and back again - total about 1.5 hours. The landscape was awesome (don't think I've used that word before! I'm running out of words to describe what we are seeing).
By the time we got on the boat my shorts were just about dried out so I didn't want to stand outside for too long as I couldn't face getting wet again and it was chucking it down - still. First day I've not used sun cream or worn my sunglasses.
As well as the beautiful views we also saw water buffalo, crow like birds with a large white collar and another Kingfisher (sorry Ian!)
It was a very relaxing afternoon but shattered now and we are now on our way back to Guilin which apparently will take 2 hours so that will be about 7pm and it will be dark. It is raining even heavier!! Time for a dose now I think.
